Yup. Five long years. That's how long ago i graduated from high school. And, to remind of that fact, today was my five year reunion. It started with a mass (i went to a catholic high school) led by one of our favorite priests (who still teaches there, despite his age). Mass was followed by a tour of the new renovations (all $3+ million). Man, with all the new additions, i'm rather peeved because (1) the new science and computer labs beat a number of college labs (the 5 science labs had nice computers at each desk with a master PC at the teacher's podium), and (2) the new additions are so much better than our 1926 (year the current school building was built) equipment. The've added a student commons (really large lounge) underneath the 2nd floor library (where we used to hang out in the heat). The entire city block behind the school is now a large multi-purpose yard (and the street between the two is now privately owned by the school….and fenced in). It makes me jealous because when i was there, we had really crappy stuff and now the new kids get all these cool toys. OK, enough of my griping.
After the tour, we had our reunion at the Rock and Bowl bowling alley (where we actually rented the entire building….yes the entire bowling alley). Our $30 for the reunion included free draft beer, food, bowling, pictures, and cover charge for the concert that started after our reunion. It's interesting to see how some people have changed and some have not. Some guys look the exact the same as they did five years ago, others were hardly recognizable (e.g.: me, according to everybody). Out of the 273 that graduated in 1999, 4 have died (1 of a heart attack during baseball practice, 1 of suicide, 1 of murder, 1 of car accident) and about 150 showed up today. i was upset that some of my best friends from high school didn't show up, but it was quite fun. After two games of bowling 100's (and i made second place both times), i then started bowling well (3 strikes and a spare in a row)….of course, we weren't playing anymore.
So, the night was nice and relaxing.
