One Week

i think that it’s been about that long since i posted…Well, *phew*!
This past week was centered on VBS in the mornings, kennel in the afternoons, and work at night. Now that VBS is over, i can sleep late…yay!
All in all, we had about 260 different kids throughout the week playing a wide assortment of games outside.
Now for my rants/pissings (i have a week to catch up)
(1) When standing before a judge and having multiple unpaid tickets two years old and a revoked license, do not plead innocence to the judge or inability to pay those previous fines (as this one guy did). As for me, i had to pay just the minimum fee (and no court costs) of $75….not as bad as i thought it would be.
(2) What happened to the hand baskets at Wal-Mart? i had a handful of things to buy and could not find a hand basket. i wasn’t going to get a huge cart (one reason being that none were available), so i hand carried everything. i got to the checkout line and stood in the 20-items-or-less lane, hoping that someone would be nice and let me go first because i had a lot less than they (but this was to no avail).
(3) When in a checkout line and you know you are going to pay by check, start writing the check! There was this lady who did not take out her checkbook until after her stuff was bagged and in her cart! Then, she chatted with the cashier before she started to write the freaking check….That ticks me off….Oh, did i mention that she had a line behind her about 10 people long?
(4) DVDs at Blockbuster suck. i have been trying to get Donnie Darko to actually watch it. ALL THREE DVDs at Blockbuster are scratched.
(5) This semester was my worst GPA at 3.0. That sucks.
(6) Dogs with long hair and water falling from the sky do not mix for a good smell.

And, lastly, story time!
On Monday, my family left to go out of town. i was told that their flight was for 6:00 AM (which means they have to be at the airport for 5:00 AM). So, we wake up at 4:00 AM, get everything ready, packed and over to the airport (of course, i have to go because the price for parking a car at the airport for 3 weeks is exorbent). So, i drop them off. We arrived at 5:00, and started unpacking. My stepdad runs and gets a pushcart for the luggage. He asks my mom whether or not he should run and get into the line (because he was using some standby tickets). She says that she’ll get the kids rounded up and meet him there. Now, a normal person would see this as a message to take the luggage since a woman cannot push a stoller, hold a 2 year old’s hand and watch a ten year old AND push a big cart of luggage. Unfortunately, my stepdad is not a normal person and ran off to the line. So, i had to grab the cart and push it to him (with the message of “don’t forget this”) while my mom watched the car.
Finally with all that done, all was good and i left. Being that the car was on empty (and had been for 30 miles), i stopped and put some fuel into it (i say some because the thing takes somwhere in the range of $8,000 for a fill up and i’m a bit broke). Then, i got home, undressed, and back into bed (i still had another two hours before i had to wake up for good). Only, five minutes later, the phone rang. My family was unable to get the 6:00 flight and wanted me to come and pick up some of them. GRRR. So, i drove all the way back to the airport to pick up my mom, the baby, and Austin. My stepdad and Pierson were staying around the airport and waiting to catch the next available flight (as they had the standby passes). So, we returned home at 7:15. Still no extra sleep. Since i only had a few more minutes before having to wake up (and i was wide awake at the moment…), i stayed awake. At 8:30 we left (i had to get stuff at VBS set up before VBS). i set up the games for VBS in 15 minutes, then drove back to the airport to drop my mom off for her flight, and returned to VBS before the games started. After VBS, i had to run to school and take two finals before i could go home and sleep. Eventually, i did.
And, the moral of the story: If you have a family, do not use the free buddy passes (standby tickets). Pay the extra $100 per person and not annoy needlessly your driver.

Last day of summer semester

Finally. It is finished. Over. Done. Fin. Die Ende. It feels good. i have two finals on Monday and then i'll be off for THREE WHOLE WEEKS! In other news around the world, and in case you are unable to read my past posts, i will be going to Philadelphia in 25 days (that's the 16th, right?).

Philly Cheesesteaks and such

It is official:
Departing Monday, 16 August at 10:20 AM from New Orleans…
Arriving at 3:56 PM in Philadelphia (after a brief stop to read some more in Charlotte, NC). And then, Departing Saturday, 21 August at 5:45 PM from Philadelphia and returning to New Orleans at 7:41 PM.
Now, the greater questions remain:
(1) Jeans or no jeans?
(2) Toys or no toys?
(3) Is dihydrogen monoxide really water?
(4) What is the Ablative Absolute and what is its purpose in prose?

OK, so i do have answer (read: wild speculative guesses) for the latter 2, but the first 2 require some assisstance. i'm used to the weather here in New Orleans (High of 95+, Low of 75+, 150% humidity which makes it feel like: High of 120+ and Low of 85+) and wearing shorts and t-shirts until sometime in November or December (and then returning to shorts sometime in January or February) or nothing at all (ok, so New Orleans is NOT a nudist colony…only Bourbon Street). i'm not used to cold weather (i.e. anything below 80) and definitely not cold water (i.e. water temps below 90). Some of you may be flabbergasted (great word, i know!) at this, others will admittedly be the choir to whom i am currently preaching (correct English sounds strange). So, a question mainly for those of you, my faithful (and more than likely strange for being so) readers, who have lived mostly in the hotter areas of the South and have either traveled or recently moved to colder climes (ahem! You know who you are): Jeans or no jeans?
And, a question for everybody else who feels left out: Toys or no toys? Explain in 20 words or less with details, yet avoiding specifics.
Colored Flower of the City of Brotherly Love, here i come!

Tempus fugit.

Time flies…Where to? i don't know…actually, i haven't even a clue. It just disappears…quickly. Here's an update (very brief because of the website and, of course, little time):
(1) My mom went to the ER Tuesday morning because of pain. Doctors ruled out any really bad things (cancer, MS, etc) but haven't yet ruled out the slightly bad (Spina Bifida, etc). My mom believes it's Fibromyalgia (hopefully i spelled that right).
(2) i finally got a cell phone. i went with T-Mobile and the Motorola V300. So far, i'm quite pleased. i am on AIM 24/7 (thanks to the cell phone and unlimited messaging and internet use). Kalamos was right.
(3) Butterfly Effect is a good movie.
(4) Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy “trilogy” (those who have read it know what i mean) is quite wonderful.
(5) One more week of school.
(6) i'm going to the City of Brotherly Love (as opposed to the City of Erotic Love [Erodelphia] or the City of Godly Love [Agapadelphia]) in a few weeks (16 August) for the week to see/meet a new found friend (is that the way i should put it?)
(7) In one week, i will be home alone for three weeks as the rest of my family will be going out of town.
Did i mention that there's only one week left of the summer semester?

Sometimes

In a song by a local band (Mary's Den) entitled “Sometimes,” i fnid myself at this junction of space and time. Heh, right now, i feel like i am so far from grace that even those that outright reject grace are on better footing than i.
IN RETURNING
In returning to Me,
and waiting for Me,
shall you be saved.
In quietness and confidence
is your strength.
But we would trust ourselves
and stand in our own strength
and we shall be ashamed
upon that day.

Alrighty now

If all has gone well, this post will be showing up on my *new* yet still undisclosed blog. Update on my site: things are going well. Since i have been away from the world of web authoring, its been…interesting…learning the new toys that have developed.

Well, now i'm off to work so that i can have small rectangular green things to give.

A quick moment

It’s good not having to wake up at the buttcrack of dawn to go to school today…after all, it is summer. And a very wet one at that. In fact, we have had 51 inches of rain this year already…yes 51 inches as in 4′3″…we’re currently 17 inches over the average. A note for all you who groom dogs: when shaving dogs, the object is to shorten the hair (and only the hair) to whatever length the clippers are. For instance, using a clipper with 1/4″ cut should result in a dog with hair that is 1/4″ long…not 3″. So, after my stepdad telling me that he “shaved” a few dogs last week, i spent my morning re-shaving them all to an actually short length…all four of them. Not too bad, though. We’re trying to go to the pool today as soon as the sun comes out (i need to work on my Rotissere Christopher), but it seems to be playing hide-and-go-seek. Later, i have work tonight… More to come later….
We now return you to your regularly scheduled program.

Milk

God, do i love milk. We buy about three gallons a week for our house. i drink one, and share another with everybody else for cereal. The third is mostly my stepdad's for his 18 bowls of Total a day…even though i still drink some of that one as well. If we get a fourth one, i drink about half of it. i'm pretty sure that i drink around one and a half gallons of milk per week while home. Oh yeah…it has to be at least 2%…the skim milks are just water with food coloring. And it has to be plain milk. Chocolate milk and strawberry milk are good, but the plain milk just rocks.
