Integration of life

i have been thinking lately…Since i have this pretty LiveJorurnal, a pretty Xanga, and my own website, i wanted to mesh the three together so as to optimise the hot air coming from my fingers. i think i've finally decided that this will become more of a mundane phenomenological exposition of the everydayness in which i find myself. The Xanga will become more of my own personal thoughts. My website will become more philosophically and theologically oriented. That way, each one has me from a different perspective, while maximising the amount of hot air i get to put on the near-infinitude of the web. In keeping with that motif, here it goes…
i flew First Class today from Philly to Atlanta to N'awlins. First Class is the way to fly. i wish i were rich to do so. Talk about being pampered! Sitting down, the flight attendant (aka stewardess) takes my coat and offers a drink…any drink. Once the plane actually gets in the air, it's more drinks (with refills even) and a choice of snacks (snack mix, Biscoffs, pretzels, and some chips). The seats are nice and spacious. Overall, very nice.
i really enjoyed the weekend meeting my girlfriend's friends, who are, for the most part, quite sane. i wonder how that happened ;) i also thought of a theme for my Heidegger class (10 page paper due in two weeks): “Revelation of the World by Flight.” In Heidegger, the “World” hides itself from view unless an object (”equipment”) or a chain of references breaks down. In this breaking down, the “World” is revealed and Dasein may see it for what it is. Included with this is Heidegger's idea of Authenticity: “resolutely facing death.” Well, these two things seem to merge in the concept of a flight. The “World” is completely hidden until the plane angles differently (say, during takeoff, or initial descent, etc). At this point, the “World” becomes revealed, as well as the opportunity to momentarily leave Everydayness and be Authentic. i need to ask my prof. about this tomorrow in class. i hope he okays it.
My defense is tomorrow at 4:00 pm. From what i've been told, it'll be 30 minutes of discussing the topic with the professors and giving a brief autobiography of the past and future of the paper. After those two things, it's smoooooth sailing.
Lastly, my pet project (MOSphpBB: demo.impleri.net ) has actually gotten two responses. One, on the board itself, asks a question that could have been answered by reading the file attached to the download (ho-boy…) The other, over AIM, was more technical. i can't believe i was actually able to explain *how* to transfer a users table from one database to a totally different database (i.e. different architecture) and implement it without actually having intimate knowledge of SQL, PHP, phpBB, or Mambo. Wow, sometimes i even amaze myself…ok, well…most of the time!
Off to bed! Ciao.

  • As Amarok 2 gets closer to a release, it is looking better and better. There's a new feature in the works that will give Pandora a good fight: music biases. - #
  • Today, two great things (according to me, at least) have been released: Firefox 3 and Wine 1.0. Nearly everybody should know what Firefox is, however many probably don't know about Wine. It is an Open Source project that works as an abstraction layer so Linux (and other POSIX) users can run Windows programs (such as Photoshop) on Linux without needing to have Windows installed. - #
  • After a long wait, it is official.  I've been accepted to the University of Glasgow's doctoral program in theology.  The term starts in late September, so I'll be moving some time between now and then. - #
  • I found a few problems with my reading lists regarding dates. I've fixed them all so that it is relatively accurate. - #
