The pains of waiting! The quarter’s grades are to be turned in by tomorrow at noon. None of my professors have yet posted grades. The agony!
i need to get my butt to the library at school. i have seven books on hold.
i also found out i need to apply to officially be considered a dual-MA student. i also need to give them more money along with that. i wish i would have known this before…i would have applied for both at the same time.

Phoenix is further from Denver than we thought….14 hours later.
No TagsAs Jesus said dying on the cross, “it is finished.” OK, well my “agony” was nowhere near comparison, but it’s finished. Papers are done and turned in. Now, it’s time to pack and drive for long time.
No TagsTwo more to go. The 10 pager and 5 pager. Will it all be done in 6 hours? And, no, i’m just getting to these.
No Tags5 pager down. 10 pager to go. And it’s not due until tomorrow at 5, even though i’ll be busy packing and leaving for Phoenix…Estimated time of departure is 2 pm…between now and then is a visit to the Vet, packing up the car (and our bags), changing the oil (the real way, not going to Wal-Mart way), and getting as much sleep as possible because it’s going to be an 11 hour drive…and my normal bedtime is around 11. i think i’ll take a shower (one week without shaving or showering makes one’s spouse cringe).
i can do this:
Define “The Mahdi”, “Qadaris”, “Ash’Ari”, and “ahl al-hadith” (each must be half a page)
Write a 7 page essay on the following: Discuss the main thesis of the ahl al-hadith and their response to the Mu’tazili emphasis on rationalism.
So, it’s actually only about 9 pages. Oh, if it’s not obvious, its for the Islam class.
My ideal library:
- The complete works of Heidegger (the German version has been out for a while, there hasn’t been a standard English version yet…especially since not all have been translated)
- Same with Nietzsche
- Complete works of Kierkegaard. i guess i’d go for the English standard translation as i don’t know Dutch very well (i.e. at all).
- At least Church Dogmatics, unabridged, by Karl Barth (all 5 volumes with all the various parts). i’m not sure if i’d want/need any other of Barth’s works, nor am i sure that i want the English standard translation or the original German.
- Aquinas’s Summa Theologicae, parallel Latin and English version.
- Tillich’s Systematic Theology (wow, something in English!)
- Kant’s three Critiques (Pure Reason, Practical Reason, Judgement), plus the Prolegomena. English translation (i don’t think there’s a standard translation, but i’d be partial to Kemp-Smith’s translation).
- Various French philosophers (Badiou, Derrida, Deleuze, and Foucault) major works.
- Major works of Wittgenstein (Brown Book, Blue Book, Tractatus, etc)
- Hegel’s Phenomenology of Spirit and Logic
- Various major works of the Greeks (Plato, Aristotle, Socrates) and Pre-Socratics
- Various other works (Zizek, MacIntyre, Plantinga, etc)
- Whatever else i forgot to mention
Of course, for it to be the ideal library, i will have read all of those as well.
No TagsHa. Go figure.

Looking for the Back to School 2003 issue of Abercrombie & Fitch’s A&F Quarterly because the majority of the content was authored by none other than Slavoj Zizek. (link)
The things you discover when doing research for a paper…
Update:
(1) i don’t want to write any more papers.
(2) i still have 4 left to do.
(3) My 15-page Philosophy paper will be a re-visit to Divine Omniscience and Free Will (which was my undergrad thesis), but with a Heideggerean (and Zizekean, Vattimoan, and Badiouan) twist on how “belief” should be defined in postmodernity and beyond.
(4) 12-page Islam paper will be on Sunni theology.
(5) 5-page Psych of Religion paper (part 3) will be re-visit to the last one (Messianic Judaism) but from a different perspective (instead of Intrinsic/Extrinsic, it will be Coping and Attribution).
(6) 1-page write-up on a movie we watched on Sufism in Islam to focus on the mystical element and its opposition to systematization.
(7) U2 has always been cool.
