I realize that I am entering this conversation only about a year and a half after it got started, but I will throw in my two cents worth anyhow.

I personally believe that many issues could be resolved if we could be humbled by just what it is that humans are capable of knowing and what that process is like. I believe that in the book Faith Seeking Understanding by Trevor Hart that this can be attained in a fairly straighforward way. Based off some of the thought of Michael Polanyi and Alisdair MacIntyre the author rather pointedly suggests that while we don't have to succomb to pure objectivity neither do we to pure relativism.

If this is the case, then, to me, an obvious by-product would be to engage others different from me with an openness and appreciation toward them that they are even pondering such matters pertaining to faith in the first place. Then, my aim is not to convince them to change sides in agreement with me relative to what I think may the the case pertaining to spiritual matters, but that I might be able to gain the opportunity based off of respect for the other as a person that they might be influenced by that respect and love for them which, hopefully, is reflected by me through the witnees of the Holy Spirit in my life. And then, as opportunity arises, I might be able to engage with them more from an ideological frame of mind, and they with me, that we both may prosper from what the other may have to offer. The good news would be, though, that from the beginning, both sides would be in agreement that the other would not be "expected" to conform to the other's ideas. I believe that this is what Jesus meant when he exorts us to love one another, including those who won't be able to see eye to eye with us.
