These are really musings for topics i wish to explore later:
- Did you know that the concept of a substitutionary atonement (that Christ died on behalf of all sinners…a substitution) was not formulated until the 11th century by Anselm?
- Did you know that the concept of biblical inerrancy wasn’t forumlated until the 18th century?
- That premillenial eschatology (the idea that includes a “rapture” before a “tribulation”, a 1000 year reign of Christ after the Second Coming, followed by a Day of Judgement) not until the 19th century?
- That “apocrypha” and “deuterocanonical” books of the Bible were included in the Bible and its canon early on but were removed by Martin Luther in the 16th century?
All of these bring me to another point to consider: the idea of sola Scriptura (that is, the concept that the Scriptures alone should be the starting point and final authority on doctrinal matter) is false. Christians (even those who claim this) use more than just Scriptures. Furthermore, Christians modify the contents of Scriptures to make their point more plausible.
