It seems that the next few months will be pretty busy in terms of travel. For anyone interested, here’s the rough itinerary:
- 23-25 April: Bristol, England for the Speculative Realism/Speculative Materialism workshop/conference. I’ll also be visiting some friends down there (you know who you are).
- 16-18 May: Florence, Italy for a quick 3-day getaway with my wife.
- Weekend of 4 July or 11 July: Ireland for another quick 3-day getaway, probably flying into Dublin.
- 18 July – 2 August: Running about the UK. The actual dates and places haven’t been decided yet as I’m waiting to find out when my mother-in-law and sister-in-law are coming. We’ll be hitting London, as well some of the tourist fun and exciting spots around the UK. I’d really like to get over to the Hebrides (those islands directly west of mainland Scotland) as well as Loch Ness.
- 9 – 13 August: Cologne, Germany for the annual CONNECTDeleuze conference.
- September: Looking at another 3-day getaway to Barcelona, Spain.
It can be real easy to get cheap flights within Europe (150 quid for two to Italy!). It also helps to stay in hostels that cost under £50 a night as well….That means a 3-day getaway costs under £400 for everything. Airlines in the US still have a thing or two to learn regarding flights which it seems Europe has done pretty well (e.g. tickets for £5 or less before taxes/fees).
The call for papers for the annual conference of the AAR includes a nice little group on theology and continental philosophy (that sounds vaguely familiar) seeking papers that interact with Charles Taylor and/or Deleuze and Guattari. I had wanted to submit a paper to the Deleuze conference dealing with using Deleuze in theology, now it looks like I have two places to shoot. The 1,000 word proposal is due in about 5 weeks. Oh, and the conference is in Montreal the second week of November.

Andrew Jones posted a wonderful story about how Christmas made the first world war cease for celebration. Regardless of differences, have a peaceful time this Christmas.
Since I have been living my digital life on many machines, I thought about ways to create easier access for myself to my most useful things. As a result, I’ve been integrating into many of the online services. For instance, I now maintain a personal calendar on Google. I use Google Reader for my blog subscriptions (and will use Liferea once it releases its 1.5x line that can sync with Google Reader). i have switched all of my bookmarks to delicious. I have switched all of my email accounts to IMAP instead of POP3 (so that I can use my webmail and access all of my email from wherever). I still have the problem of accessing all of my files, but the most necessary fit nicely on my USB drive. Any other suggestions?

I am in the process of updating this site. Many things are broken (like the sidebars). However, they will be fixed (eventually).
