One thing that really gets me upset is when pastor-type people try too hard to “refute” The Da Vinci Code stuff. For instance, Sunday i was at a church in Michigan and the preacher said things to the effect of:
- Because there are actually 673 panes of glass on the pyramid at the Louvre (and not 666 as Brown states in the book), the book is wrong. And even that is wrong as the Louvre’s website (link) states (Virtual Tours->Architectural Views->Cour Napoleon) that the pyramid in question has “almost 800 glass lozenges and triangles.”
- “Jehovah” is a Latin creation of Brown to confuse matters on the Hebrew YHWH. The preacher (who has studied OT Hebrew!) does not realize that “Jehovah” was the original attempt at pronouncing YHWH by adding the vowels that aren’t present. It wasn’t until later that scholars though that “Yahweh” was more accurate.
- Because the movie crew could not film at Westminster Abbey (minor location in the book for a major artifact in the quest), Brown must be wrong.
Now, i agree that Dan Brown was a bit far-fetched and had very little understanding in what he was writing, but this zealousness to disprove a work of fiction is a bit much. Give it a rest.

Have you noticed how “war” has become such a buzzword that it has lost its meaning? Let’s look at all the non-war wars: Cold War, the War on Drugs, the War on Aids, the War against Terror. Almost every decade has had its own “war” that (1) wasn’t a real war and (2) was a losing battle. We can look at the statistics on drug use and on aids. We’ve seemed to have lost those wars, so we got a new one: the War on Terror. Now, this is a special breed because it has many different terrorists. First, there were the good ole’ terrorists. Then the bioterrorists. The latest form of terrorism is now narcoterrorists. This special breed is a combination of the War on Drugs and the War on Terror. Now we can advance on one enemy in two ways: terror or drugs. At this rate, we’ll have so many wars, there will even be a War for Peace. Try fathoming that.

According to an Italian study ( link ), a T.V. in the bedroom and sex in the bedroom don’t mix. The study of 523 couples show that sex without a TV averages 8 per month (that’s it?!?) and drops to 4 with a TV. In addition to that, couples over 50 drop from 7 per month to 1.5 per month (how one can have a half of sex in any period of time is rather strange, i know). The worst offenders: violent shows. They kill sex by half. Reality TV only kills about a third.

Let’s face it. Robertson is now a member of the Italian Mafia. First, he calls for a hit on Hugo Chavez, the Venezuelan president. Then, he claims that Katrina and Rita were punishments by God because of America’s abortion rate (even though Louisiana has gone Republican for the last two major elections and is a DINO).
Now, he claims that Israeli PM Ariel Sharon’s stroke is punishment by God for “dividing Israel”.
i think that if Robertson makes another bone-headed comment as those, mainstream Christianity should denounce him as a heretic.
